Tropical Birthday Party!

Hi Friends,

If you’re following me on social media, you’ve probably seen some photos from my Tropical Themed 25th Birthday Party, but there’s a lot more to see. Before we get to the pictures, I want you guys to know that things didn’t quite go the way I had planned due to the rain. I had a few things that I couldn’t get to since the party was outside and I had to wait for the rain to pass to set it all up. I could have moved it indoors, but it just does not look the same when you move it inside.

So now that you know what happened, let’s get to the pictures.

I took a few shots of the cake while waiting for the rain to pass, those balloons in the back are actually a half-arch I made to go outside next to the dessert table. I never got a chance to use it, because after it stopped raining we had so many things to move outside and the arch just wasn’t a priority. Everyone with kids ended up taking a balloon or two home with them, so at least they got used.

I made a honey cake and decorated it with buttercream frosting, mini meringue cookies, edible flowers, and a few tiny macarons. The cake topper is handmade.

I went full-on tropical for the tables using pineapples and palm leaves as centerpieces. The benches had to be covered with blankets due to the rain, but it ended up working so I was fine with it.

Drink station was pretty simple due to the time crunch caused by  rain. (I should probably stop talking about the rain).

I wanted the appetizer table to be the big feature, but to make sure people don’t go hungry we also had a separate table with hamburgers and hotdogs and a huge salad. The little sliders you see here were made from lamb and I actually tried to copy them from one of the best restaurants in Tulsa (Smoke). I even got a jar of their pickled red onions to use so I don’t have to make it myself.

The cheese platters were my favorite part. I was only supposed to have one, but I had so many things I bought to use for it that we made a second one.

The empty space to the left of the table was meant to have the balloon half-arch thing that I made, and I really wish I could have used it.

Can you tell I went a little crazy with the details on the desserts? I wanted them to look fun and tropical with all the edible flower petals. I bought the doughnuts and macarons and just decorated them, everything else is homemade.
