Garden Inspired First Birthday Party!

A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of being a part of a fun 1st birthday party. The only niece on my side of the family turned one, so this was a big deal for all of us, and I was happy to be a part of it.

We decided to go with a garden theme, but to keep the colors mostly pink, gold and white. The most incredible part of the whole thing was this amazing background. And as much as I’d like to take the credit for this, I’m afraid the only thing I did was hang it up. We had to hang 3 white, plastic table cloths underneath, since we were working with dark walls and curtains.

This took a lot of crepe paper and a whole day of cutting. Just think how patient you’d have to be in order to make this.

I was worried about the sign clashing with the backdrop, but it ended up working pretty well. It helps tie the background with the rest of the garden themed decor.

The floral branches are from Hobby Lobby. All we did was twist them into shapes we wanted and hot glued them to stay. Then we hung them up with fishing line.

I was happy the majority of gifts were pink or floral and didn’t clash with anything. Oh the little things that make me happy, but it sure is nice to have friends with great taste.

What a sweet moment opening gifts!

On one side we had a chair and I added a vase with some flowers ( which I just happened to have at home).  On the other side, a couple of bird-cages that I decorated with spray roses and greenery, along with my pearl beads, which I literally use everywhere.

Now, moving on to the dessert table.

These tissue paper flowers were a pain to hang up since I was putting push pins through the center, my thumbs hurt for days after. I had first used tape, but I was afraid they wouldn’t hold, so I added the push pins. The leaves were made from felt. You can find the tutorial for the whole thing here: http://projectnursery.com/2014/04/diy-tissue-paper-flowers/. Of course, mine aren’t as pretty, but I think I did alright for my first time.

The smash cake and cupcakes were my doing, along with the white cake (which I promise didn’t look so plain in real life). I decided to add spray roses all around, because first of all they’re pink, plus I had extra. The picture was a chalkboard printable I did with all the stats about the birthday girl. I will post a tutorial on chalkboard printables in the future.

And here are a few more close-ups just because.

Aren’t these strawberry macaroons just darling?

Can you tell she was excited to smash the cake? Unfortunately we couldn’t get her to do it, she was actually sick that day and didn’t want anything to do with the cake.

And here’s more of the birthday girl cuteness.

Hope you enjoyed all the pictures. It was a great honor to be a part of this celebration.
